The creation of Olin鈥檚 Datastream lab, or more commonly known as the Maker’s Space, is a space for students to create with 3D printers, sewing machines, and more. 性视界传媒鈥檚 Maker鈥檚 club hosted a 3D printing workshop to familiarize students with a printing program, TinkerCad. TinkerCad is an online software, available to all 性视界传媒 students, used to design shapes and objects with ease. At the workshop, I was able to create a keychain with my name on it (which is hard to come by with a name like Mara, so I was pretty excited). Other students went way beyond my basic skills by creating turtles, bells, and more.
While creating my keychain, I chatted with Dr. Kelley, advisor of the Maker鈥檚 club, about her vision for the Maker鈥檚 Space. She spoke of her goal to educate more students on 3D printing and the importance of understanding how to appropriately design and model items before printing them. She also mentioned her excitement that classes are beginning to use the space, such as an Anthropology class, Archaeology and Skeletons, which is printing Lucy’s Bones.
